With 1 week left in the regular season, there’s still quite a bit of uncertainty as to where Marquette will finish in the Big East standings. Here’s our attempt to try to clarify the possible scenarios.
5th Place
Thurs., March 12|2:30 p.m. | FS1
If Marquette goes 1-1:
Xavier goes 1-1, beating Butler on Sat
This would create at worst a mini conference between MU, BU and XU, one that MU would win with a 3-1 record.
6th Place
Thurs., March 12|9:30 p.m. | FS1
If Marquette goes 1-1:
Butler goes 2-0
If Marquette goes 1-1:
Butler goes 1-1, beating Xavier
If Marquette goes 0-2:
Xavier goes 0-2
Basically, anything that pits MU against Xavier in a tiebreaker is favorable to MU.
7th Place
Wed., March 11|9:30 p.m. | FS1
If Marquette goes 0-2:
Xavier goes 1-1 or better
Long story short, Marquette still has its destiny in its hands, in terms of not having to play the dreaded 7-10 game against DePaul on Wednesday night of the Big East Tournament.
