I took a bunch of days off at the end of the year to dive into full nerd town and set up some type of system to automate plus/minus results for individual Marquette players. Of course I waited until the last day to actually start, and failed miserably, so I had to do it by hand which is incredibly time consuming. As a result, we’ll isolate the results to the Big East season (for now). It will be updated throughout the year, though check the dates, as it may take some time to get completely up to speed.
One other note, on court plus/minus splits can be very deceiving and don’t mean much in isolation. For example, if Sam Hauser plays 40 minutes in a 6-point loss, he’s going to be a -6 for the game. If Greg Elliott plays a 3 minute stretch near the end in which Marquette outscores the opponent by 3 points, he’d be a +3. That doesn’t mean Elliott is 9 points better than Hauser and should be playing over him. For individual games, particularly short stints within a game, plus/minus doesn’t tell you much. If Elliott kept amassing +3s in his stints over the course of 4 or 5 games, that would tell you he probably deserves more minutes. So take the individual results with a big grain of salt, and the overall results with another grain.
