Marquette picked up it’s fourth commitment of the 2015 class when Sacar Anim chose the blue and gold over Northwestern on Monday afternoon. He is a 3-star point-guard from Minnesota ranked No. 180 in the 247Sports composite rankings.
Steve Wojciechowski and the staff showed heavy interest in Anim starting late in 2014 and their pursuit paid off with the verbal from the 6-foot-4 shooting guard.
Below is one of the most recent highlight tapes:
Without having seen him in person, and being a relatively under the radar recruit, it’s really tough to say in person what kind of an impact he will have at Marquette, but it may be safe to assume he won’t be pegged as an instant impact kind of player.
However, with the loss of two point guards to graduation, and the release of Nick Noskowiak from hi NLI, Marquette’s biggest weakness next year will be the back court. Only three players from this year’s squad will return, with all of Sandy Cohen, Duane Wilson and Jajuan Johnson being preferred off the ball. That might open up some playing time for Anim, should he prove himself trustworthy with the basketball.
That may not be likely, though, as most of the scouting reports have pegged him as a slasher, get to the free-throw line type of player needing to improve both his outside shooting and his ball-handling ability.
Here’s another mixtape, with more footage from his AAU games:
This may not be a sexy pickup, beating the likes of Northern Iowa, Drake and Rhode Island for a prospect, but with so many vacancies left to be filled, adding potential 4-year contributors has to be of added importance.
