Each Monday Paint Touches will be bringing you a look back at the history of Buzz Williams and how he has grown as a coach, husband and father. (USA Today)
Beginning Monday, Paint Touches is proud to present an exclusive look into the history and life of Marquette head coach Buzz Williams. While it won’t cover every topic, Williams spoke with Paint Touches on a number of topics, allowing us inside the mind and the day-to-day operations of one of college basketball’s brightest talents.
Included in this four-part series, released each Monday, will be:
— The work Williams did as a teenager in his small Texas hometown to save up enough money to pay his way through junior college
— How he earned the nickname “Buzz” after a conversation with his life mentor, Lewis Orr
— Where he believes he has grown the most as a head coach since Marquette hired him in 2008
— What he believes is the biggest misconception the outside world has about him
— His color-coded schedule, broken down by the minute to what he’ll be doing each day and where he’ll be doing it
— His feelings toward the media’s reluctance to accept his junior-college recruiting approach
— Why his philosophy of doing things the right way, all time, and thoroughly is the only way he knows how
— How the term “paint touches” came to be and why it’s the most important strategy he knows
Put together, the series will answer the question: “What would 2008 Buzz Williams think about 2013 Buzz Williams?”
Check back Monday for the first installment entitled, “Four dusty corners: Where it all began.”
You keep setting the bar higher for yourselves. Great concept – looking forward to seeing the series.
