Kolek named 3rd repeat consensus All-American in Marquette history

Marquette is a basketball first school with an illustrious history, both at a team and individual level. And Tyler Kolek just secured something only 2 other players in Marquette history could claim.

For the second consecutive year, Kolek was named to at least one team on all four All-American teams that make up the consensus designation from the AP, Sporting News, NABC and USBWA.

Just being a consensus once put him in rare air, something only 7 other players in Marquette history had accomplished, and these are names that resonate, most of which hang in the rafters of Fiserv.

Dean Meminger: 1971
Jim Chones: 1972
Earl Tatum: 1976
Butch Lee: 1977, 1978
Sam Worthen: 1980
Dwyane Wade: 2003
Markus Howard: 2019, 2020

And now add Tyler Kolek in 2023 and 2024 to that list.

Read that list of names again and it speaks for itself. To think of the sky high expectations set on him, and the way he rose up and met them despite a more tumultuous season from a team perspective.

I’ll have more on Kolek’s year and legacy to come, but for now, know that we have witnessed history the past 2 seasons.
